On January 31, US President Donald Trump confirmed his intention to definitely impose tariffs against the EU. This issue will be discussed at a trade ministers' meeting in Warsaw.
At the moment, EU leaders have no details on the new tariffs but stress that trade barriers hurt all sides. Earlier, the White House imposed a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on Chinese products. In response, Ottawa plans to slap American goods with tariffs worth 155 billion Canadian dollars. China is not sitting idle either and is preparing countermeasures.
In this tense situation, EU-US relations remain strained. The conflict had already escalated when Denmark refused to sell Greenland to the US, prompting the EU to back Denmark in its standoff with Trump.
