According to Mexico’s Minister of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, the US government has made a monumental mistake by slapping tariffs on Mexican goods. In his opinion, the United States has "shot itself in the foot" with this move. These large-scale tariffs will have a devastating impact, yet Washington is trying to distract the public from these problems. Instead of offering real solutions, the US accuses Mexico of helping drug traffickers, Ebrard added.
Earlier, reports confirmed that President Trump signed an order imposing tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada, and China. The tariff rate for Mexico was set at 25%. In response, Ebrard was tasked with taking countermeasures—both tariff and non-tariff—to protect Mexico’s interests.
