The US Logistics Manager’s Index rose to 71.1 in June 2026 from 69.5 in May, marking the strongest expansion in the logistics sector since March 2022. This acceleration is driven primarily by a sharp increase in Inventory Levels (+5.7 to 60.5), largely attributable to surging volumes among larger firms and downstream retailers.
The stronger activity from retailers suggests that consumer spending remained resilient through the first half of the year despite inflation, giving retailers the confidence to bring in goods earlier for the second half. In addition, the prospect of higher tariffs later in July is prompting some firms to pull forward imports and shipments ahead of the peak season.
The rise in Inventory Levels has, in turn, fueled increases in Warehousing Utilization (+6.5 to 69.4), Warehousing Prices (+3.0 to 73.8), and Transportation Utilization (+5.2 to 74.7). Meanwhile, Warehousing Capacity (-3.0 to 47.5) slipped back into contraction territory, as additional storage space is required to handle the higher inventory volumes.
