Malta’s annual inflation rate eased to 2.0% in June 2026, its lowest level since February 2025, down slightly from 2.1% in May. The deceleration was driven primarily by slower price growth in food (1.8% vs 2.0%) and transport (2.6% vs 2.9%), alongside more moderate increases in recreation, sport and culture (3.4% vs 3.9%), health (3.0% vs 3.1%), and restaurants and accommodation services (3.0% vs 3.6%).
At the same time, deflation eased in clothing and footwear (-3.9% vs -4.3%) and in information and communication (-1.6% vs -2.5%). In contrast, price growth picked up for housing and utilities (2.8% vs 2.5%), furnishings (2.6% vs 2.4%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (1.6% vs 1.5%), and education services (3.2% vs 3.1%).
Insurance and financial services costs also rebounded, rising 0.3% after a 0.2% decline in the previous month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 1.1%, slowing from a 1.4% rise in May.
