The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a third consecutive session on Monday, gaining about 1.4% to 2,882 points—its highest level since August 12—driven by increases across all vessel segments.
The capesize index, reflecting earnings for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a third straight day, climbing 2% to 4,643 points, a near two-week high. The panamax index, which measures rates for vessels that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose for a second session, adding 1.3% to reach 2,131 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index inched up 0.1% to 1,641 points.
