Czech Republic Inflation Confirmed at 3-Month High

The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic rose to 1.9% in August 2026, in line with preliminary estimates and up from 1.7% in July. This was the highest rate since May, driven mainly by faster price growth in the transport sector, where inflation accelerated to 9.6% from 6.6% in July. Within this category, fuel and lubricant prices jumped 26.2% year-on-year (compared with 16.8% previously), with average diesel prices reaching their highest level since October 2022.

Housing-related inflation also remained elevated at 5.4%, supported by a 6.1% increase in rents and a 5.4% rise in prices for materials and services for minor repairs and maintenance.

By contrast, food and non-alcoholic beverages posted deeper deflation, with prices falling 4.0% year-on-year after a 3.4% decline in the previous month. Energy prices continued to ease, as electricity prices dropped 11.2% and natural gas prices fell 4.8%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3% in August, slowing from a 0.6% gain in July.
