Peru’s economy grew by 3.23% year-on-year in August 2026, easing from the 3.56% expansion recorded in July. Fishing activity remained in contraction, though the pace moderated to a 17.33% decline, as warmer sea surface temperatures linked to the El Niño phenomenon drove fish into deeper waters. Mining and hydrocarbons output also fell, shrinking by 5.53%.
By contrast, all other major sectors posted gains, led by construction, which jumped 10.34%. Other sectors making significant contributions to overall economic growth included manufacturing (up 4.18%), commerce (6.89%), agriculture (3.37%), transport (2.56%), utilities (6.61%), business services (3.91%), and public administration and defense (3.06%).
For the January–August 2026 period, the economy expanded by 3.14% compared with the same period a year earlier. Over the twelve months to August, economic activity was 3.31% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
