The Hang Seng Index gained 0.4% on Tuesday, adding 101 points to trade near 23,500, driven by advances in technology services, retail, and consumer-related stocks that more than offset declines in energy, electronics, and healthcare names. Market sentiment was supported by China’s latest measures to stabilize its equity markets, including plans to inject over CNY 100 billion in potential liquidity for stock purchases and to cut interest rates on loans used for share buybacks. A steep drop in oil prices, amid optimism over a possible diplomatic breakthrough between the US and Iran, further eased inflation concerns. Still, investor confidence remained constrained by worries about heavy AI-related capital spending and uncertain returns, following the recent selloff in US technology shares. Among notable gainers, Tencent climbed 1.3%, NetEase 2.0%, Meituan 2.1%, Alibaba 1.5%, and CATL 6.1%. Investors were also awaiting Hong Kong’s preliminary third-quarter GDP data and September retail sales figures.
