Ford Motor Co. and TXU Energy, a subsidiary of Vistra (VST), announced on Monday a strategic partnership aimed at introducing a new retail energy solution for owners of Ford electric SUVs and trucks in Texas.
As part of this collaboration, the TXU Energy Free EV Miles program allows participating Ford EV customers to charge their vehicles at home with virtually no costs during off-peak hours, recognizing that around 80% of vehicle charging typically occurs at home.
Eligible Ford EV customers will receive credits on their TXU Energy bills for any electricity utilized for charging their vehicles during designated free off-peak hours—from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. the next day—year-round.
Ford, through the TXU Free EV Miles initiative, seeks to inform Texans about the advantages of electric vehicles while motivating users to charge during periods of lower grid demand.
The offering is structured for maximum flexibility, providing participants with up to 18 hours per day to charge at no cost. By using the Preferred Charge Times feature available in the FordPass app or the in-vehicle screen, drivers of Ford electric SUVs and trucks can align their charging schedules with TXU Energy's off-peak hours.
Should customers require charging outside these off-peak periods, they will incur charges at a straightforward fixed rate, identical to the rate applied to the rest of their home energy use.
The program is inclusive of Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Escape PHEV customers, allowing them to reap the benefits of bill credits, regardless of the home charging hardware they use.
Participants in the Free EV Miles energy plan will also enjoy additional incentives from both Ford and TXU Energy, such as a $100 welcome bonus from Ford and a $250 bonus from TXU Energy for maintaining enrollment for a year.
Once enrolled and verified, customers will benefit from automatic rebates covering at-home charging costs during the specified off-peak hours.
