France's industrial production saw a sharper decline than anticipated in July, following a rebound the previous month, as reported by the statistical office INSEE on Friday.
Industrial output dropped by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis, offsetting a 0.8 percent increase from June. Analysts had predicted a smaller decline of 0.3 percent.
Likewise, manufacturing output decreased by 0.9 percent in July, reversing a 0.9 percent increase in June.
Among the manufacturing sectors, the production of coke and refined petroleum products experienced a substantial drop of 9.9 percent. Conversely, the manufacturing of machinery and equipment goods increased by 2.0 percent.
The data further revealed that transport equipment production plummeted by 4.9 percent in July, countering a 3.1 percent increase from the prior month. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying output rose by 1.0 percent, and construction production fell by 2.2 percent.
