Cigna Group (CI) has renewed its interest in merging with smaller competitor Humana Inc. (HUM) following the collapse of previous negotiations late last year, as reported by Bloomberg, citing insiders knowledgeable about the situation.
The report indicates that these two major health insurers have recently engaged in preliminary, informal talks regarding a possible merger, although discussions are still at an early stage.
Back in December 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported that Cigna Group had shelved its attempt to acquire Humana after failing to agree on pricing and other financial terms. Subsequently, Cigna redirected its attention towards pursuing smaller acquisition opportunities.
