South Korea Consumer Confidence Improves In January

In January, South Korea experienced an uptick in consumer sentiment for the first time in three months, according to findings released by the Bank of Korea on Wednesday. The consumer confidence index climbed to 91.2 in January, up from 88.2 in December.

This consumer confidence survey was conducted over the period of January 7 to January 14, involving 2,500 households.

The sub-index reflecting households' current living standards held steady at 87. However, expectations regarding future living standards improved, with the related index rising to 89 from 86. Similarly, the index for anticipated household income rose from 94 to 96.

In January, there was a slight decline in consumers' expectations regarding interest rates, with the respective measure decreasing from 98 to 97. Additionally, the inflation rate anticipated for the upcoming year is projected to be 2.8%, showing a slight decrease from the previous 2.9%.
