Malaysia Food Inflation Stays at 3-Month Low

In February 2025, food prices in Malaysia experienced a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This rate remained consistent for the second month in a row and marked the lowest pricing level seen in three months. Notable areas of price increase included food consumed at home, which rose by 0.5% following a 0.4% rise in January. Cereals and cereal products saw a slight decrease in their rise, adjusting to 0.2% from 0.3%. Prices for fish and other seafood increased from 1.0% to 1.2%, and oils and fats rose from 1.5% to 1.7%. Fruits and nuts remained steady with a 0.3% increase, whereas sugar, confectionery, and desserts saw a notable rise to 1.1% from the previous month’s 0.8%. The cost of food consumed away from home decreased slightly, from a previous 5.0% increase to 4.6%. Meanwhile, a decrease was recorded in the prices of meat, which fell to -0.3% compared to -1.0% previously, dairy products like milk and eggs, which dropped to -0.8% from -0.4%, and vegetables, which maintained a steady decline, moving to -1.0% from -1.1%.
