In February 2025, construction orders in Japan experienced a 3.3% decrease from the previous year, totaling ¥1.280 billion. This downturn came after a notable 12.2% increase in January. The decline was mainly attributed to reduced domestic orders, which dropped by 1.3% compared to an 8.5% increase the preceding month, with significant decreases noted in public sector orders, falling 2.4% even after a 7.9% decline in January. Conversely, overseas orders showed a robust recovery, surging by 24.1% following a steep 56.7% drop in January. The building construction sector saw an acceleration in growth, rising by 6% from 4.9%, and there was a resurgence in demand for civil engineering projects, which climbed by 5.3% after plummeting 15.7%. When considering the first two months of the year, overall construction orders showed a year-on-year increase of 5.8%.
