Brunei Consumer Prices Drop the Most in 3 Months

In March 2025, consumer prices in Brunei experienced a notable decrease of 0.5% compared to the previous year, representing the most significant drop since December. This followed a slight increase of 0.01% in February. The decline was widespread, affecting most categories: prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell by 0.6% compared to a 0.7% decrease in February; clothing and footwear saw a 1.0% decrease following a previous rise of 9.4%; and housing and utilities remained constant with a 0.2% decrease. Furnishings and household maintenance dropped by 0.9%, compared to a 0.3% decline previously noted; transport prices decreased by 1.2%, slightly improved from a 1.3% fall; communication costs remained stable with a decrease of 0.5%; recreational and cultural sectors experienced a 1.2% decline, contrasting with a 0.6% increase earlier; and miscellaneous goods and services saw a slight fall of 0.2%, against a prior increase of 0.2%. Meanwhile, inflation eased for the restaurants and hotels sector, down to 0.2% from 0.5%, and the education sector saw no change, maintaining an inflation rate of 0.3%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.5%, overturning a previous 0.3% increase in February.
