UK 10-Year Gilt Yield Falls Ahead BoE Decision

The yield on the 10-year UK Gilt has declined to 4.45%, approaching its lowest point since December, as investors increasingly anticipate the Bank of England will reduce interest rates to shield the economy from escalating global trade tensions. Current market forecasts suggest up to four quarter-point rate cuts by the end of 2025, with a 96% likelihood of a 25 basis point cut at the upcoming Bank of England meeting. Some economists argue that the Monetary Policy Committee might expedite its gradual easing strategy in reaction to the risks posed by President Trump's extensive tariffs, which have created uncertainty in the global economic outlook. Analysts predict that the meeting in May will provide clarity on how the Bank of England is re-evaluating its policy strategy. Additionally, the UK Debt Management Office has announced it will syndicate a new 2056 gilt during the week of May 19. In contrast, in the United States, robust payroll data for April has complicated the Federal Reserve's decision-making process, coming shortly after weaker GDP figures increased the probability of rate cuts later in the year.
