FX.co ★ Australia Jobless Rate Steady at 4.1% for 3rd Month

Australia's unemployment rate, when adjusted for seasonal factors, remained steady at 4.1% in May 2025, maintaining the same level as the previous two months and aligning with market predictions. The unemployed population decreased by 2,600, reaching 618,300. This was due to a significant drop of 16,100 in those seeking full-time positions, bringing the total to 415,200, whereas the number of individuals looking for part-time jobs rose by 13,500 to 203,000. Surprisingly, total employment fell by 2,500 to 14.62 million, contrary to the anticipated 25,000 increase, following a downwardly revised rise of 87,600 in April. Part-time employment saw a decline of 41,100 to 4.52 million, while full-time employment rose by 38,700, hitting a new record high of 10.10 million. The participation rate slightly decreased to 67.0% from April's three-month peak of 67.1% and was below expected figures of 67.1%. Additionally, the underemployment rate slightly decreased to 5.9% from 6.0%. The total monthly hours worked across all jobs increased by 25 million, reaching 1,994 million.
