In May 2025, Slovakia's current account deficit markedly decreased to EUR 77.0 million, a stark improvement from the EUR 579.0 million recorded in the same month of the previous year. This change can be primarily attributed to an enhanced goods account, which transitioned to a surplus of EUR 269.6 million after registering a deficit of EUR 175.5 million the year before. Concurrently, both the primary income deficit (narrowing from EUR -266.8 million to EUR -245.3 million) and secondary income deficit (shrinking from EUR -197.8 million to EUR -128.6 million) saw reductions. However, the services surplus declined to EUR 27.3 million, compared to EUR 61.1 million in the previous year.
