In June 2025, the issuance of building permits in the United States experienced a modest increase, rising by 0.2% to reach a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.397 million. This figure slightly exceeded market predictions, which anticipated a rate of 1.39 million. Permits specifically for structures comprising five or more units saw a significant uptick of 8.1%, reaching an annualized rate of 478,000. In contrast, permits for single-family homes decreased by 3.7%, totaling 866,000. Examining the regional breakdown, there was a 4.4% increase in the South, bringing the total to 775,000, while the Midwest remained stable at 217,000. However, declines were noted in the Northeast, which fell by 11.4% to 109,000, and in the Western region, which saw a 5.1% decrease, totaling 296,000.
