Inflation rates in Ethiopia saw a slight reduction in June 2025, with the annual rate falling to 13.9%, compared to 14.4% recorded in the preceding two months. A considerable factor in this decrease was the moderated rise in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which grew by 11.7% following a 12.1% increase in May. This included a noticeable slowdown in the prices of other food products, from 20.2% to 18.8%, while the category of bread and cereals saw no increase after a previous 1.3% rise. Additionally, the costs for several categories experienced a slower rate of increase: housing and utilities rose by 18.4% compared to a previous 18.8%, clothing and footwear increased by 13.8% down from 16.3%, and restaurants and hotels saw prices rise by 17.2%, a decrease from 18.3%. Similarly, the rise in costs for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, as well as furnishings and household maintenance, eased to 13.9% and 13.7%, respectively, from 14.7% and 14.9%. On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices inched up by 0.5% in June, following a 0.2% rise in May.
