As of October 9, 2025, the average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage has dipped to 6.30%, a slight decrease from the previous week's rate of 6.34%, according to a lender survey conducted by Freddie Mac, the mortgage industry leader. Simultaneously, the average for a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage dropped to 5.53%, compared to 5.55% the week prior. "Mortgage rates saw a decline this week," stated Sam Khater, Chief Economist at Freddie Mac. "Recently, we have observed that mortgage rates have stabilized at their lowest point within the past year. There is mounting evidence that these reduced rates are encouraging more homebuyers to proceed with their plans to purchase homes, thereby increasing buying activity."
