FX.co ★ Romania Trade Deficit Narrows in August

In August 2025, Romania's trade deficit was reduced to EUR 2.6 billion, down from EUR 2.9 billion recorded in August of the previous year. Exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 3.6%, reaching EUR 6.8 billion. This growth was fueled largely by a 1.2% rise in sales to EU countries and a significant 9.2% increase in sales to non-EU countries. In contrast, imports saw a slight decline of 0.5% year-on-year, amounting to EUR 9.4 billion. This decline was primarily due to a 3.2% reduction in purchases from non-EU countries, which offset a modest 0.8% growth in imports from EU nations. Over the course of the first eight months of the year, however, the trade deficit expanded to EUR 21.9 billion, compared to the EUR 20.9 billion recorded in the same period the previous year.
