Rwanda Inflation Rate Slows for 3rd Month

Rwanda's inflation rate continued to decline for the third month in a row, reaching a six-month low of 6.2% in September 2025, down from 6.4% in August. This decrease was primarily driven by reduced prices in the sectors of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which saw a slowdown (4% from 5% in August), and clothing and footwear, which also experienced a decline (5.4% from 6.2%). In contrast, healthcare costs rose significantly, driven by an unfavorable exchange rate as the majority of medical products are imported and require foreign currency purchases, predominantly in dollars. The healthcare index surged to 62.5%, up from 62%. Other notable price increases were observed in the sectors of restaurants and hotels (17.1% compared to 16.8%), education (rising to 10.6% from 5.5%), communication (holding steady at 17.6%), alcoholic beverages (increasing to 12.3% from 11.5%), transportation (up to 6.8% from 5.5%), and housing and utilities (which rose to 2.7% from 1.9%). On a month-to-month comparison, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a rise of 1.3% in September, following a 0.7% increase in August.
