Kosovo Trade Deficit Widens in September

In September 2025, Kosovo's trade deficit expanded to EUR 520.5 million, up from EUR 429.4 million in the same period the previous year, primarily as imports outpaced exports. Imports experienced a significant increase of 19.6% year-on-year, reaching EUR 606.2 million. This rise was largely driven by the importation of mineral products, which comprised 14.6% of the total imports, alongside machinery and electrical equipment (11.3%), base metals (11.3%), prepared foods, beverages and tobacco (11.2%), and transport equipment (10.0%). The leading import partners were China, contributing 15.6% of imports, followed by Turkey at 12.8% and Germany at 12.7%.

Conversely, exports demonstrated a growth of 10.7%, amounting to EUR 85.8 million. Base metals stood out as the largest category, representing 19.1% of total exports, with plastics and rubber products at 12.5%, mineral products at 12.4%, prepared foods at 11.5%, miscellaneous manufactured goods at 9.5%, and plant products at 7.7% also making significant contributions.
