Brunei Consumer Prices Inch Higher

In September 2025, Brunei experienced a modest increase in consumer prices, which climbed by 0.03% year-on-year. This change marked a reversal from the 0.4% decline observed the previous month and represented the first rise since February. Particularly noteworthy was the rise in food and non-alcoholic beverage costs, which increased for the first time in over a year by 0.4%, following a 0.4% fall in August. This was due to higher prices for fruits, fish and seafood, as well as coffee, tea, and cocoa. Additional price increases were observed in housing and utilities (up by 0.1% compared to a 0.1% decrease previously), transport (rising by 0.7% compared to a 0.4% decline), health (0.5% following a 0.9% increase), recreation and culture (up by 0.1% following a 1.9% decrease), education (steady at 0.3%), and restaurants and hotels (steady at 0.2%). Conversely, there were price declines in clothing and footwear (down by 1.4% compared to a 0.2% drop), furnishings and household maintenance (down by 0.7% compared to a 0.1% rise), communication (down by 0.3%, remaining unchanged from the previous month), and miscellaneous goods and services (down by 1.3% compared to a 1.4% decrease). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.4%, recovering from a 0.2% drop in August and marking the first monthly gain in five months.
