Estonian Trade Gap Widens in September

In September 2025, Estonia experienced an increase in its trade deficit, which expanded to EUR 292 million from EUR 246 million in the corresponding month the previous year. This change occurred as the growth rate of exports lagged behind that of imports. Specifically, exports saw a 4% increase, reaching EUR 1,583 million, buoyed by an 11% rise in shipments to EU countries, despite a 12% decrease in exports to non-EU markets. Notable growth occurred in the export of commodities such as wood and wood products (up 7%), base metals and related products (up 3%), as well as agricultural goods and various manufactured articles (up 9%). On the import side, there was an 8% rise to EUR 1,875 million, with increased purchases from both non-EU (up 1%) and EU countries (up 7%). The most significant increases in imports were seen in wood and wood products (up 25%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (up 19%). Over the first three quarters of the year, Estonia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 2,809 million, a widening from the EUR 2,414 million deficit observed during the same timeframe of the prior year.
