Spain Trade Deficit Widens in September

Spain's trade deficit expanded significantly in September 2025, reaching €6 billion, marking the highest level since January. This sharp increase represents a notable rise from the €3.29 billion recorded in the same period the previous year. Imports surged by 10.1% to €38.4 billion, driven by strong demand for equipment goods (17.8% increase), chemical products (11.4% increase), and food, beverages, and tobacco (12.6% increase). Key trading partners witnessed substantial increases in imports from China (10.1%), France (16%), the United States (22.1%), Italy (7.4%), and Portugal (5.8%). In contrast, exports grew by a more modest 2.6% to €32.4 billion. This growth was primarily fueled by a rise in manufactured consumer goods (10.8% increase) and raw materials (43.7% increase). The export gains were particularly notable in France (5.5% increase), Portugal (4.6% increase), and the United States (4.9% increase), although there was a decline in exports to the United Kingdom by 6.6%.
