US Personal Spending Rises 0.3% in September

In September 2025, US personal spending increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month, marking a $65.1 billion rise, according to delayed reports. This outcome aligned with market predictions and came after a revised 0.5% gain reported for August. The majority of the growth in September was attributed to a $63.0 billion rise in services expenditure. Key contributors included housing and utilities, which increased by $15.4 billion, followed by healthcare at $12.6 billion, financial services and insurance at $12.5 billion, food services and accommodations at $8.2 billion, and transportation services at $6.7 billion. Meanwhile, spending on goods saw a modest rise of $2.1 billion. This was driven by a significant $17.2 billion increase in expenditure on gasoline and other energy goods, which offset reductions in spending on motor vehicles and parts, recreational goods and vehicles, and clothing and footwear, which decreased by $7.4 billion, $6.3 billion, and $3.8 billion, respectively.
