In the third quarter of 2025, Malta's unemployment rate fell to 2.7%, a decrease from the revised 3.2% during the same period of the previous year. The number of unemployed individuals reduced by 1,005, totaling 9,434, and there was a decline of 2,352 in the inactive population, bringing that figure to 158,304. Notably, women represented 58.6% of this inactive demographic, with those aged over 65 comprising the largest proportion. The predominant reason for this inactivity is individuals reaching retirement age or opting for early retirement, accounting for 42.8%. Concurrently, the employment rate increased to 81.6%, compared to 80% the previous year, as the number of employed individuals rose by 15,598, reaching 337,234. Additionally, the activity rate climbed to 84% from 82.7% a year earlier, with the highest participation rate observed among individuals aged 25 to 54, at 92.8%.
