FX.co ★ Ibovespa Starts the Week Lower

On Monday, the Ibovespa experienced a slight decline of 0.3%, closing at 160,490, as losses in banking and commodity-linked stocks exerted pressure on the index. The financial sector bore the brunt of the declines, with Santander dropping by 2.7% and Banco do Brasil by 0.6%. Meanwhile, heavyweight Vale saw a decrease of 1.5%. Other notable losses included WEG, Rede D’Or, and Sabesp, which fell within a range of 0.7% to 1.7%. Azul continued its downward trajectory, following a nearly 30% drop on Friday attributed to the issuance of approximately 1.4 trillion new shares, significantly diluting the value for existing shareholders. In contrast, both Petrobras and Ambev managed to post gains of approximately 0.5%. Despite the subdued trading session, the market continued to anticipate a resumption of interest rate cuts next year, buoyed by the latest IPC M inflation index data that unexpectedly showed an easing, resulting in a 1.05% deflation reading for the year instead of the expected increase.
