In October 2025, building permits in the United States saw a slight decline of 0.2%, reaching a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.412 million. This follows a notable 6.4% increase in September. Permits for single-family homes dipped by 0.5%, landing at an annual rate of 876,000. In contrast, permits for structures with five or more units experienced a modest rise of 0.4%, totaling 481,000. Analyzing regional data, the Northeast saw a decrease of 1.4% to 145,000 permits, the Midwest experienced a drop of 2% to 199,000 permits, and the South faced a reduction of 3.3% to 731,000 permits. Meanwhile, the West region showed a significant increase of 9.1%, reaching 185,000 permits.
