Slovakia Consumer Morale Lowest in Nearly 3 Years

In January 2026, Slovakia's consumer confidence index fell to -26.7, a decrease from the -22.4 recorded in the previous month. This reading is the lowest since March 2023 and sits 6.6 points below the long-term average, indicating a decline in sentiment across all components of the index. Notably, consumer sentiment regarding unemployment took a significant hit, with the indicator rising to 31.5 from December’s 24.5, reflecting growing concerns over job stability. Additionally, there was increased pessimism concerning savings, with the related metric dropping to -20.8 from -16.1. Similarly, apprehension about the overall economic outlook worsened, moving to -42.6 from -39.5, and consumers' views on their personal financial situations declined to -11.7 from -9.6. Moreover, consumers continued to perceive the period as unfavorable for significant purchases, with the related index at -19.7, slightly improving from -19.9. Expectations of further price hikes also grew, increasing to 30.6 from 27.8.
