Romania’s producer price inflation strengthened at the start of 2026, with the Producer Price Index (PPI) rising 7.81% year-over-year in January. The latest figure, updated on 3 March 2026, marks an acceleration from December 2025, when PPI growth stood at 6.00% compared with the same month a year earlier.
The data are based on a year-over-year comparison, where the January 2026 reading reflects the change in producer prices versus January of the previous year, while the December 2025 figure compares prices to December a year earlier. The uptick signals building cost pressures at the factory gate, which could, over time, filter through to consumer prices if producers pass higher input costs along the supply chain.
The strengthening PPI trajectory will be closely watched by markets and policymakers, as rising producer prices may signal renewed inflationary risks in Romania’s economy in the early months of 2026.
