Slovenia posted a trade deficit of EUR 1,149.8 million in January 2026, a marked turnaround from the EUR 296.6 million surplus recorded in the same month a year earlier, as exports contracted far more sharply than imports. Export values fell by 22.8% year-on-year to EUR 4,188.7 million, largely due to a steep decline in sales to non-EU markets (-46.7%), while exports to EU member states actually increased by 9.1%. Imports decreased by 5.0% to EUR 5,338.4 million, reflecting lower purchases from both EU countries (-4.5%) and non-EU partners (-5.4%).
