Taiwan’s Export Growth Cools Sharply in February After January Surge

Taiwan’s export momentum decelerated markedly in February 2026, with year-over-year growth in exports easing to 20.6%, according to data updated on 9 March 2026. This marks a sharp slowdown from January 2026, when exports had surged 69.9% compared with a year earlier.

The figures are based on a year-over-year comparison, where each month’s change is measured against the same month of the previous year. While January’s reading reflected an exceptionally strong rebound in external demand or favorable base effects, February’s 20.6% increase indicates that Taiwanese exports are still expanding at a solid pace, but no longer at the extraordinary rates seen at the start of the year.

The steep moderation from January to February suggests that some of the one-off or seasonal factors that boosted the earlier reading have faded, leaving a more normalized—though still robust—export performance for Taiwan as 2026 progresses.
