Senegal’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 0.8% in February 2026, up from 0.4% in January. The key food index rebounded, increasing 0.2% after having fallen 0.5% in the previous month. Additional upward pressure came from several categories: restaurants and hotels (2.7% vs. 2.1%), housing and utilities (0.7% vs. 0.4%), health (1.5% vs. 1.3%), clothing and footwear (0.8% vs. 0.6%), and recreation, sports, and culture (1.3% vs. 1.0%).
In contrast, price growth eased in the transportation sector (0.2% vs. 0.7%), while communication costs continued to decline (-0.4% vs. -0.7%). Core consumer prices, which exclude energy and fresh produce, rose by 2.5%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.2% in February, following a 1.3% decline in January.
