FX.co ★ Romania Current Account Gap Lowest Since 2023

Romania’s current account posted a deficit of EUR 977 million in January 2026, narrowing from EUR 1,032 million in the same month of the previous year. This was the smallest shortfall since January 2023, driven largely by a sharp increase in the secondary income surplus, which rose to EUR 188 million from just EUR 5 million in January 2025. At the same time, the goods deficit improved to EUR 2,305 million from EUR 2,719 million. By contrast, the services surplus edged down to EUR 1,164 million from EUR 1,176 million, while the primary income balance swung from a surplus of EUR 505 million to a deficit of EUR 25 million.
