Austria’s unemployment rate edged up to 7.5% in March 2026 from 7.4% a year earlier, though it remained at its lowest level in four months. The number of unemployed rose by 6,380 year-on-year to 322,727 people. Among them, the unemployment rate for women increased by 0.3 percentage points to 7.1%, with 143,503 women out of work, while the rate for men and other genders held steady at 7.9%, affecting 179,224 individuals.
Dependent employment was largely stable at 3,952,000, a slight increase of 4,000 compared with March 2025. The number of women in dependent employment grew by 12,000 to 1,868,000, whereas employment among men and other genders declined by 8,000 to 2,084,000. Including participants in training schemes, the total number of people unemployed or in training programs rose by 3,488 year-on-year to 400,561.
