India’s BSE Sensex opened largely flat around 75,900 on Wednesday, after a decline in the previous session, as caution persisted amid heightened uncertainty over developments in the Middle East. Iran accused the US of violating the ceasefire with strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, complicating efforts to end the conflict, while tensions also escalated after Israel launched heavy air strikes on Lebanon.
At the same time, investors are assessing fresh corporate updates and earnings. Coal India fell more than 4% after the government announced a sale of up to a 2% stake via an offer for sale, priced at a 10% discount to the previous close. Oil and Natural Gas Corp dropped 4% following only modest growth in its fourth-quarter revenue and profit.
Other notable decliners included HDFC Bank (-1.9%), Life Insurance Corp of India (-2%), and Infosys (-0.9%). In contrast, gains were recorded in Larsen & Toubro (+0.4%), Adani Power (+0.7%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (+0.9%).
