The figures underline a worsening short-term trend in consumer activity: the current indicator measures how retail sales in April changed relative to March, while the previous indicator captured the change in March versus February. With both months in negative territory and April’s contraction steeper than March’s, the data point to growing pressure on Latvia’s retailers and suggest that domestic demand may be losing momentum as the second quarter begins.
