US equity futures climbed to fresh record highs on Monday, powered by continued strength in the technology sector, which again outweighed concerns about macroeconomic headwinds from surging energy prices. Futures on the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Dow Jones Industrial Average were each up around 0.5%, pointing to new all-time peaks.
Nvidia gained more than 2% in premarket trading after unveiling its new RTX Spark Superchip, marking its entry into the PC market and positioning it in direct competition with AMD and Intel, whose shares each fell by about 5%. The efficiency gains promised by Nvidia’s latest chip boosted sentiment across software and hyperscaler names, driving Microsoft and Oracle up roughly 4% apiece.
In contrast, the broader market was more subdued as oil prices rebounded amid ongoing uncertainty over the status of a potential agreement between Iran and the United States. Berkshire Hathaway’s shares were little changed after the company announced a $6.8 billion acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison—its first major move since the departure of Warren Buffett.
