Taiwan’s exports jumped 51.7% year-on-year to USD 78.5 billion in May 2026, up sharply from a 39% increase in April and far exceeding market expectations of 37.9%. Growth was broad-based across major export categories, led by information, communication and audio-video products (75.2%), electronic components (56%), machinery (22.7%), base metals and related products (1.6%), and electrical machinery (33.4%).
All key export markets recorded strong gains, including the United States (47.9%), Mainland China and Hong Kong (35.4%), ASEAN economies (90.8%), Europe (40.3%), Japan (32.3%), and South Korea (43.3%).
Over the first five months of 2026, total exports reached USD 341.8 billion, representing a 48.7% increase from the same period a year earlier.
