Morocco’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.2% in May 2026, down from 1.7% in April. The deceleration was driven primarily by a drop in food prices (-0.7% vs 0.6% in April), especially in the category of food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9% vs 0.5%).
In contrast, non-food inflation edged up slightly to 2.6% from 2.5%, reflecting faster price increases in housing and utilities (1.5% vs 0.7%) and in furniture, household goods, and routine home maintenance (1.2% vs 0.6%).
Meanwhile, inflation slowed in transport (8.1% vs 8.4%) and in clothing and footwear (0.9% vs 1.0%), while prices declined in recreation and culture (-0.1% vs 0.2%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.9%—the first monthly decline this year—following a 0.4% increase in the previous month.
