The Baltic Dry Index rose 0.7% to 2,743 on Friday, marking its highest level since July 17. The capesize index, which tracks vessels typically transporting 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed 2.1% to 4,285, its strongest reading since July 16.
In contrast, the panamax index, reflecting ships that usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined 2% to 2,024, the lowest level in nearly three months. The supramax index also edged down 0.5% to 1,694, its weakest level since July 9.
On a weekly basis, the Baltic Dry Index slipped 0.3%.
