Irish Consumer Morale Weakens Slightly

Ireland’s Credit Union Consumer Sentiment Index edged down to 61.1 in July 2026 from June’s four-month high of 62.2, marking the first decline in three months and reflecting persistent cost-of-living concerns. Although the index remained well below the long-term survey average of 83.2, it stayed above April’s 40-month low of 53.3, which was triggered by a spike in fuel prices linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The survey indicated modest declines across all key subindices, including those for current conditions, consumer expectations, and the broader economic outlook. “Concerns about the cost of living continue to outweigh all other economic issues,” said David Malone, CEO of the Irish League of Credit Unions.
