U.S. Goods Trade Deficit Narrows in June, Signals Slight Improvement in External Balance

The United States goods trade deficit narrowed in June 2026, offering a modest sign of improvement in the country’s external balance. According to the latest data updated on 28 July 2026, the goods trade balance came in at -$101.50 billion for June, compared with a deficit of -$105.89 billion in May 2026.

While the deficit remains substantial, the month-on-month shift reflects a reduction of more than $4 billion in the trade gap. This easing in the shortfall suggests an incremental adjustment in the flow of goods between the U.S. and its trading partners during the early summer period of 2026. Investors and policymakers are likely to monitor upcoming releases to see whether June’s narrowing marks the beginning of a more sustained trend in the U.S. goods trade balance.
