France’s economic expansion eased in the second quarter of 2026, with year-over-year GDP growth slowing to 0.7% from 0.9% in the first quarter, according to data updated on 30 July 2026.
The figures show that while the French economy continues to grow compared with a year earlier, the pace has moderated since the start of the year. The previous reading for the first quarter of 2026 indicated a 0.9% increase in GDP versus the same period a year before, whereas the second-quarter reading marks a softer 0.7% rise on the same year-over-year basis.
The data are presented on a year-over-year comparison, meaning the current figure reflects how much GDP in the second quarter of 2026 has changed relative to the second quarter of 2025, while the previous figure compares the first quarter of 2026 with the first quarter of 2025.
