Sweden’s retail sector showed signs of moderating momentum in June, as year-over-year sales growth slowed to 6.6%, down from 8.1% in May 2026. The fresh data, updated on 30 July 2026, indicates that while consumer spending remains solidly above year-ago levels, the pace of expansion has eased from the previous month’s robust performance.
Both figures are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month’s retail sales to the same month a year earlier. May’s 8.1% jump highlighted particularly strong annual gains, but June’s 6.6% reading suggests some cooling in consumption as the summer began. Even so, the latest result continues to point to resilient underlying demand in Sweden’s retail market compared with last year.
The deceleration in June may signal the beginning of a more moderate growth phase after a period of stronger annual increases, and will be closely watched by analysts and policymakers assessing the strength and sustainability of Swedish household spending.
