The Ibovespa inched higher to trade above 177,500 on Friday, after the market’s opening was delayed due to operational issues. The postponement is expected to cluster orders that would normally be spread throughout the morning, heightening the potential for volatility. Petrobras added nearly 0.5% on the back of firmer oil prices, while major banks also advanced, with Itaú gaining more than 1%. Vale (-0.5%) reported second-quarter 2026 earnings and revenue above expectations and raised its 2026 guidance, but still posted a 35% drop in profit. Multiplan (+0.5%) is scheduled to hold a conference call after reporting second-quarter net income that beat market estimates. In contrast, Braskem (-2%) saw lower sales in 2Q26, pressured by weaker demand for key chemicals. On the macro front, Brazil’s gross public debt-to-GDP ratio climbed to 81.9% in June from 81.0% in May, and the deterioration in fiscal accounts reinforced expectations that borrowing costs may remain elevated.
