U.S. ADP Employment Growth Nearly Halves in July, Signaling Cooling Labor Demand

Private-sector job creation in the United States slowed sharply in July, according to the latest ADP Nonfarm Employment Change data updated on 5 August 2026. The indicator showed an increase of 44,000 jobs in July 2026, down from 98,000 in June 2026.

The significant moderation in hiring points to a cooling in labor demand compared with the previous month, when job growth was more than double July’s pace. While the ADP report does not always move in lockstep with official government employment figures, the slowdown may influence market expectations for economic momentum and potential policy responses in the coming months.

The July reading suggests that businesses are becoming more cautious about expanding payrolls amid an uncertain economic backdrop, and investors will be closely watching subsequent labor data to confirm whether this marks the start of a broader softening trend in the U.S. job market.
